Interesting facts about Maruthamalai Murugapperuman Temple!


Muruthamalai is a temple located on a hill with 837 steps.

It houses a shrine to Varadaraja Perumal.

Sapthakanniyar Sanctuary is located on the way to Pambatti Siddhar Shrine. Special worship for Aadiperukku is conducted here.

There is an engraving of a snake on the rock in the Pambatti Siddhar shrine. It is in the form of this snake that Lord Murugan appeared in front of Pambatti Siddhar.

Upon being blessed by Lord Murugan in Maruthamalai, Pambatti Siddhar, carved a new idol for the Lord. This statue is housed in the Sanctum Sanctorium.

It is believed that if you pray to Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga in this shrine and tie a mangalyam (holy thread of matrimony) or a cradle to the tree, the obstruction to marriage/child birth will be removed.

On Vaikasi Visakha, Maruthamalai Murugan is offered 108 pots of milk in abhishekam.

For Thaipusam, a 10-day Brammorchavam is held in Maruthamalai.

The Holy Wedding of Lord Murugan is conductedd in the morning on Thaipusam; followed by a Chariot procession in the evening. On that day Lord will go for procession on the elephant chariot.

Every evening in Maruthamalai, Lord Murugan goes on a procession in a golden chariot.

Lord Ganesha and Lord Murugan, the Deities in Maruthamalai, are Suyambu moorthies.
